It's time we build a system that holds it all together.

It's time we build a system that holds it all together.

I've spent twelve years in the field. Much of that was on the clock, at Colorado-based expeditionary schools like Outward Bound, and at high-adventure camps and programs. The rest went to organizing outdoor events and meetups for my local community, giving people a chance to stretch their lungs and spin their wheels in the mountains.

As a community organizer, program director, guide, and instructor, running the trips, managing the staff, and holding together every detail and logistic fell to me. For all those years I relied on the same patchwork: binders, spreadsheets, group texts, and memory. Somehow, it always worked. Until it didn't.

The moments that mattered most - an incident, an audit, a staffing change - were exactly when the patchwork failed me. The follow-up was always the same: scrambling for last-minute details and paperwork, the trail of sticky notes, and the endless search through Google Drive.

Alpen/OS is the system I wished I'd had. One place that holds the details and logistics for every trip, and captures an official record of it without the administrative work afterward. It assumes the field is offline and the staff are tired, and it surfaces what you need exactly when you need it.

Right now I'm working with a small group of design partners, people who run frequent outdoor operations, to refine the system. If that's you, I'd love to talk.
